Young Ross Pickles (age 11) showed the other 16 anglers in Sundays match how to fish a match when he came second in the Raygill Open on Sun 20th March.

The guys better watch out cos he is gonna do his best to win next time!

How's this for a good day's fishing!!!
Paul LaHey was fishing on pole and pellet from peg 8 on the large coarse lake on Monday 7th March. He fished at 16m just over the ledge and bagged 160lb of carp! Here's the proof for all those who say there are no fish in this lake.
The fish are in there, it's up to you to get them out!
Sunday 27th Feb
The small lake has been booked in total for a match
We have the whole of the large lake to play on though. Just turn up for this lake, we do not take single bookings for the large lake.
Wednesday 9th Feb 2011
Something for the weekend?!
The small coarse lake is fishing well this week. One angler had 3 tench, 2 carp and 4 roach. Another had 3 tench, 3 carp and 4 roach. These were all on double red maggot close in, fishing off the shelf of pegs 5 & 6
2 of the tench were about 3lb in weight and these are not only good weights for these fish but also unusual as not many tench show at this time of year. Is it a sign of good times to come?
So, get yourself up on the small lake this weekend for a change to the Large one and see what comes out!
Silsden Angler, Paul Straker (67) is a regular at Raygill and was fishing 14ft out, and 9ft down on Peg 34 on Monday 1st Nov.
Paul's favourite method of bait at the moment is whole Prawns and he had just placed one on his hook and cast out when he felt a slight tug on his line. He reeled in and to his surprise there on the end of his rod was a mussel just closing around his bait!
This picture was taken before it was thrown back into the lake unharmed to enjoy its lunch!
It measured 6 inches across and 1.5 inches deep (not a bad size).
It is a Fresh Water British Swan Mussel (Anodonta Cygnea)
They are fairly common around british waters and are the largest species of freshwater mussel.
Here is a picture of Paul with his novel catch! (inset is a close up of the swan mussel).
PRAWN ALL THE WAY!!
What to use this Autumn to guarantee bagging up...
Get yourself a tin of Aniseed Hemp and some prawns. Pick a peg, ANY PEG!, feed out about 5-6ft and set up about 2ft down. Every time, this is a winning combo. So far this week we have had 1 x 11lb Common Carp on the small lake! 1 x 11.5lb Common Carp on the small lake and 2 x 3lb Bream off the large lake (as well as numerous 3 - 5lb carp). These are just a few of the fish out this week. Tench, Bream and Carp are abundant with this method!
Steve Wilsons fishing schools are certainly going "swimmingly" so far this summer holidays! Lots of kids catching lots of fish and having fun. Places still available, just call Steve.
Georgia does it again!!
14 yr old Georgia made it another memorable days fishing here at Raygill by landing these 2 wonderful CARP on peg 32 on the large lake. They were both caught on sweetcorn on 2lb line. One was 6lb and the other was 8lb. Her face is a picture as she wrestles to hold this 8lb monster. Georgia, her mum and grandma all love fishing here at Raygill.
The Raygill Open Match for tomorrow, 18th July has no takers at all so far! It is looking like it is going to be cancelled but if we get more than 6 up it can go ahead. So far, 0!!
The next open is on Sunday 1st August.
July 12th 2010 STRAKER STRIKES AGAIN!!
Silsden Angler, Paul Straker once again had a full bag after a few hours fishing off peg 34 on the large lake. Paul favours using A little hemp with Prawn to entice the bigger fish. It works really well and he had 3 over 5lb within 20 mins! Here is Paul with one of the lovely Carp. This one weighed in at 5.75lb!
Last week on the small coarse lake, 3 lucky ladies had a day to remember.Georgia, Nicola and Elaine Ayscough (Daughter, Mum and Grandma) sent me these fab pics of just a few of their haul for the day!
Well done to them.
We now have a Qualified Level 2 Coarse Fishing Coach. Steven Taylor is available for private tuition or group bookings. He is fully CRB checked and is a first aider. If you are interested you can either call or email Steven. Details are on our pricing page...
Monday 7th June
Paul Straker is having a storming day on peg 34 large lake. He is using prawn over a little hemp. The hemp is tinned and flavoured with aniseed. He has had Perch, Tench and lots of big roach one which was about 3lb! He is fishing in the edges again with his little rod.
Yesterdays match on the large lake saw Gareth Davy on Peg 3 take the1st prize with 54lb 10oz.
2nd was Danny Bolland peg 9 with 32lb 1oz and 3rd was Daz Taylor peg 21 with 20lb 10oz
More details on the match to come today via email from Tim Bolland.
Tues 1st June
Alfie Bailey wrote this report and also took the picture! Cheers, Alfie!
This beautiful fully scaled mirror carp came out of the Delf lake on Sunday 3oth May off peg 9. It was caught by Stuart Dollan from Gargrave (some of you may have seen Stuarts picture with the huge pike he caught on the Delf Lake earlier in the year! Lucky devil!)
He was on corn using little pellet bands right in the edges about 1ft out and 2.5ft deep.
On the large coarse lake Paul Straker was finding that prawn with a little hemp was working really well. He had an 11lb carp off peg 30 in the edges and lots of tench and roach. The match lads had a knock up with 10 pegs fishing on Sunday but were not as fortunate with 7.5lb being the biggest bag by Paul Smith on peg 38 (mostly roach).
Seems at the moment that longer is not better! Stick to the edges and you will find the fish, dont go crazy with metres and metres of pole.
2nd in the match was Danny Bolland peg 35, 6.7lb roach/skimmers
3rd Paul Lahey peg 31, 5.6lb roach.

On Sunday 25th April, Paul Lahey and Paul Smith came up to see what was happening on the large coarse lake. They had one of their best days here ever bagging over 60lb of Roach, Orfe and skimmers. They were both fishing maggot on pole at 9 metres. So, get your names on the list for this coming weekends open match, it's gonna be huge!

Ken Legg and his mate Eric were up fishing today (Fri 21st) on pegs 24 & 25 on the large coarse lake and were pulling out tench for fun! The biggest 3 were 2lb but of the 20+ they had out, most ranged between 1 & 1.5lb. Eric and Ken were fishing on pole with pellet and maggot. You can see a lovely pic of part time model, Ken on the picture below.
After the disastrous first raygill match results on Sunday, ( Paul Lahey won it with only 7lb although it has to be said it was blowing a tornado up there and was miserable!) Ken Legg decided to come and show the lads how to do it right! Ken fished the Delf Lake on Friday for 6 hours and bagged up with over 30lb of roach and perch on maggot. He also landed this superb Bream weighing 2.75lb.
Contrary to popular belief, we do not take the fish out on certain days for a rest, we do not herd the fish away from the angler and neither do we train and name them. There are plenty of fish in all the lakes here at Raygill, its up to you wether you catch them or not!!
EASTER SPECIAL
On Easter Sunday, 4th April, we are having an Easter knock up on the Delf Lake. There are tons of coarse fish in the Delf so Tim Bolland has kindly offered to run this to catch as many as possible in 5 hours (10am-3pm) and then transport them down to the Large Coarse Lake. The cost will be £16 per person and you can take 1 trout each if you want to! We have 16 pegs in total for this event and 5 are booked already! So, get your skates on and give Amanda a call to book on. It should be fun! 01535 632500
Draw at 9am, fish 10-3, cafe open at 8 for butties and drinks.

ALFIE SAVES THE DAY!
Alfie Bailey was up here again on Sunday 31st Jan, braving the freezing temperatures. It was absolutely freezing but he was determined to stay till he caught something. After about 3 hours this little beauty made his day...
A common carp which took 4 maggots to lure out of the lake!
Well done Alfie.
Here is DAVEY from Earby with his catch from last year. These were all caught in one session on a 3lb point. The biggest was 16lb 80z and another was 10lb 2oz. Floating bait on surface.
"Hi, Alfie here. I fished peg 1 on the small lake and used an open end feeder method. I caught lots of fish and here are some pictures for your site. "
