Happy New Year
Welcome to the Raygill Newsletter 2007. Sorry we have not been sending these out on a regular basis this year but as those of you who have been coming up to see us will know, we have been making a lot of changes to the lodge this year and have been really busy. We have now got a superb clothing shop here at the lodge and have set up an on-line clothing site and a new fishery site too. If you have access to a computer I urge you to take a look at them. They are both really super. Other than that, everything is the same as it was, even the faces here haven't changed.
We have a few things coming up over the next couple of months Below and on the back you will find invites to open evenings and any method days. We would love to see you.

DELF LAKE
The Delf lake is fishing very well at the
moment. The short periods of frost have helped to improve catch numbers.
Well worth a go with the usual buzzers and olive and black zonkers.
QUARRY LAKE
At the beginning of October we received a couple of deliveries of large rainbows into this lake. The average weight of those put in was 15lbs and some of them were up to 25lbs. The biggest of these landed to date is a 20lbs 2oz Golden Trout which is a fishery record for Golden. Some good days recently on dries, buzzers and suspender nymphs but on cooler days you will probably find that an olive or black zonker works well. The fish are only acouple of feet down in the water and are responding to more jerky retrieves.
LARGE COARSE LAKE
A few good catches of skimmers and roach on maggot and caster with pellet working on warmer days, occasionally tempting some of the carp which seem to be hanging around pegs 1-3 and 10 and 31. Night fishermen have had the odd double on pva bag pellet and fish meal boilies.
SMALL COARSE LAKE
Pegs 1 and 2 were fishing well till the cooler weather came and now 4, 5, 6 and 7 will probably result in more catches due to being slightly deeper pegs.
September 24th:-There have been some good goldies out of the quarry these last couple of weeks with many of them being too big for the anglers scales! One towed a guy around in a float tube for a while till it got away and others have been rising and taunting the fishermen.
See below for the goldie story!
Yesterday we received two deliveries of large rainbows to the quarry averaging out to 15lbs with the largest being just over 25lb!!
These were mainly Golden Trout. Take a look at these pictures...
First pic shows a motorhead fan holding a huge goldie

Next is another biggie

These fish may look cute but they were both monsters over 20lbs!

This one was another monster, check the hand above it to get an idea of size.
(it is Berbs hand)
As these fish are so big, please unhook them in the water and let them have a rest in the net before removing them from the water to weigh, photograph, brag and exaggerate!!

This pic shows you the beautiful condition and colour of the fish

Heres a handsome little goldie (sorry, ginger). Gay sir, who sir, me sir, no sir!!

So, come on, lets get some better pictures of you lot with a nice big fish and see if we cant break the record rainbow out of 22lbs
This beauty was caught and landed by Luke needham on the 10th August on the Quarry Lake. Its his first ever time at Raygill and his first fish. It weighed about 3lb.
Well Done Luke!

EXCALIBUR
On Sundays open match (19th Aug) Tricast Rochdale's Danny Bolland lost a very expensive bit o' tackle off peg 38. He lost the end piece of his pole valued at £300!!!
It went down into the murky waters so the only thing to do was go in after it. Well, let yer dad go first to check for monsters and then get in yerself. But the water was not exactly bath warm and after a few minutes of searching, they had to give up for the time being.
Not to be defeated yet fearing it could be lost forever, Danny enlisted the help of 2 scuba diving friends to help him out and dive down to find it. Not such an easy task ensued as the waters off that peg are black to say the least but after about 10 minutes rummaging around on the bottom, up it came, like excalibur and Arthur sorry, I mean Danny took hold of it and wept with joy (well, okay not quite a weep, more a little whimper of joy!)
Angela was most disgruntled though as the scuba guys did not retrieve the ball she lost in there the day before that belonged to the dog!
This pic is the moment it appeared. Happy Days for Danny!
Bernard got up early on Friday Morning (24th) and was so amazed by the beautiful sunrise that he took the following picture. It has not come out quite as good as it looked but you can clearly see the pterodactyls flying over the lake!! I know we are behind the times here but have we really still got dinosaurs at Raygill? You decide!

Hi Berb, I had a great weekend up Raygill after spending 24hours there. I
caught 8 carp and 1 small tench. The carp weighed
5lb,7lb,3lb,9lb8oz,6lb,5lb8oz,1lb, and the biggest fish of the weekend at
10lb 8oz. All the carp were mirrors apart from the 10lber which was a common
and I had been stalking from peg 1 2 weeks ago, after another couple hours
of stalking with the fly rod at the weekend the same fish came back and
sucked up my pedigree mixer from the surface, after a 15 minute battle it
came over the net and was banked. Here are pictures of the 9lb8oz mirror and
the 10lb8oz common.
Thanks for a great weekend,
Ben Dent-Willoughby

Hi Berb & Amanda,
Me and my friend Alex spent the day at Raygill
on the Large course lake
for the carp. Quite soon into the session I had
a 7lb Mirror on the surface and then the fishing
went dead. Me and Al decided to go stalking for an hour
or so and after spotting the fish and a hit-and-hold situation
he caught a 13lb 14oz common carp on the fly from the
surface. Good lad! Here are the pictrues of the 2 fish.
Thanks,
Ben Dent-Willoughby

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!
On Tuesday 17th July Male Model Steve Lister caught a lovely Rainbow Trout on a Dry Sedge on the Quarry Lake. It weighed in at 10.5lb and was his personal best. Steve said "I am just soooo Gorgeous it jumped out of the water into my arms. " So there you go, it is about looks!!
A mighty Boosh meets Pat Mustard moment I think! (Editor)
SORRY
It has not been possible to put a picture of Steve on this story for safety reasons. He is so damn gorgeous the number of hits the site would take from adoring fans would overload our website sending us into meltdown and in doing this, may potentially destroy the entire world wide web!
Here is a story sent to us by Stephen John (11th July)
Hi guys, you said you wanted stories and pic’s so here’s one!
In April I was fishing the Quarry lake with lovely blue skies, hardly a breeze and packed with fishermen. Not good conditions you may say!! However, after an hour of a few missed takes another fisherman stood next to me with an intermediate line and in 5 casts got 5 fish. He proceeded to catch another 5 or 6 in that hour so I just had to ask his tactic. After disclosing his secret to me I proceeded to mimic his tactics (I am a relative novice, always learning, as we all are, no matter how good) within an hour I’d caught 8 all around the 2-3lb mark, just near the boats, then nothing for 2 hours! Last cast of the day I then said to myself, and on my last cast with an Olive weighted nymph on a floating line with a ten foot leader I hooked into my biggest trout thus far, a lovely Blue of about 7lb! After a 10 minute fight he was released to come back to me in another 3lbs time!
Steve John

Thanks for this Steve, just hope the tactic wasnt bread!!
Scott Mc Dermott and Ryan Moore had a great days fishing on the large coarse lake last weekend. They had a number of carp out and here are a couple of great pics.
Here is Scott with a 7.5lb Mirror Carp caught off peg 9 on meat feeder fished to the island

Here is Ryan with a 10.5lb Common Carp off peg 34 on pellet
