The BASC & Raygill Open Day on Sat 21st Aug was a great success. Lots of people turned up to "have a go" at Fishing (fly & coarse) and clay and rifle shooting. Our resident fly and coarse instructors were working hard all day from 10-4 alonside the BASC coaches in shooting. The shop was busy, lots of wonderful venison and game burgers were eaten and on the whole, it was a wonderful day.

Thank you to all who came and supported the event.

DAVID HENDERSON, our resident Fly Fishing Instructor will be here all day Saturday 17th July to give free tips and advice to anyone wishing to have a go at Fly Fishing or just learn a few tricks. He will be here on the Quarry from 10-4pm. So, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? COME ON!

It will be National Fishing Month soon (17th July -17th Aug) and here at Raygill we will be serving up some super bite size tuition sessions for Fly and Coarse. Keep watching this space for more coming info.

20th June

Firstly, Happy Birthday to our best mate Bob. If you come up to Raygill, you will know Bobby Boy. Have a great Day! Well, what a beautiful day! Blue skies, windless, calm, fab! The trout on the fly are into a bit of sparkle at the mo, prefering orange or black fritz and are just under the surface but with this heat today, expect them to dive deeper. The coarse is producing some good size roach up to 4lb and the carp are topping round the rocks.

2nd June

Paul Almond of Accrington landed this beauty Pike on a Green Gold Head on the Delf Lake. It is his personal best weighing in at 13lb 3oz.

19th May 2010

PIKE CITY

Check out the viewing tank at the side of the fishery lodge and you may just see a big pike cruising past the glass!

There are about 15 pike in here ranging from 4lb up to 15lb!!

This is Tom holding a 13lber!

Bank Holiday Weekend is almost upon us and the fish are ready to play!

All lakes are open to anglers and we are hoping for some nice weather and great sport. The trout have gone a little deeper down due to the hot weather but are being caught on damsels, buzzers, hares ear and blobs. Evening is a good time for fly fishing at the mo as they are rising then. We are open till 9pm at the moment so you can arrive any time up to 7pm (Dont worry if you come later but you will be charged for 2 hours!)

On the coarse, prawn and maggot seem to be a good combo with some nice carp rising to the bait and bream, tench and perch getting in on the action too!

EASTER SPECIAL

On Easter Sunday, 4th April, we are having an Easter knock up on the Delf Lake. There are tons of coarse fish in the Delf so Tim Bolland has kindly offered to run this to catch as many as possible in 5 hours (10am-3pm) and then transport them down to the Large Coarse Lake. The cost will be £16 per person and you can take 1 trout each if you want to! £10 goes into the prize pot. We have 16 pegs in total for this event and 9 are booked already! So, get your skates on and give Amanda a call to book on. It should be fun! Draw at 9am, fish 10-3, cafe open at 8 for butties and drinks.

Please, if you are coming to visit Raygill, come prepared for all weathers! This last week we have had Shorts! No coats! Trainers! These are not suitable for fishing here! You need warm, waterproof, clothing (dont leave hats, scarves and gloves behind) and good waterproof footwear and of course a sun hat and suncream for those sunny days. Well, we get them occasionally! Come prepared and you will have a more enjoyable experience.

Below is a pic of a lovely rainbow trout caught today (25th Mar) by Fly Angler, Mark Ives. He was using a Cats' Whisker and the fish weighed about 6lb. The lake was calm with just a slight ripple.

Well done Mark.

PIKEs AHOY!!

23 yr old Stuart Dollan from Gargrave enjoyed his days pike fishing on the Delf on Friday 12th March. After a few lost runs, he managed to land this beauty. "And what did it weigh?" I hear you cry!  Answers on a postcard!! The picture was scanned in to the computer and was a little wet so apologies for quality. Well Done Stuart!!

Also on Fri 19th March, Richard Webb from Skipton landed a beauty of a pike on the QUARRY LAKE! He was fly fishing for trout with a Black Zonker on a sinking line well down in the water. He had almost fully retreived his line when he thoguth he had snagged something under the edge of the walkway. A fight ensued and about 10 minutes later, he landed it. Picture below shows Stuart and a picture of Richards Pike is to follow asap.
