Another quick update just for Rhys and Gwyn (hope i got your names right!?) The weather today (sat 7th Nov) was terrible. But you know this cos you were stood out in it you fools! haha. Your breakfast was wonderful, the best ever (I am sure I heard you say that!). Did you catch anything? lets be hearing about it! Wonder if you will read this!
From Amanda!!
Ramanda, nice to hear from you
Yes you could be right about being a bit crazy fishing in that weather but its worth it, even if its just for your breakfast your wit and smiling face
Report wise, yet again I have to admit I have been given a lesson in catching fish
Today (7th nov) it was bluddy freezing!! we had a decent day's fishing with the bulk of the fish taking black dries and boobies, static and a fast retrieve with some explosive hits
Rhys had 5 and I BRYN ( Gwyn ) had just the 2 but missed around 5
Others at the fishery also seemed to be catching off the top using beetles, hoppers, daddies etc.
Look forward to seeing you soon poss next w/end
Bryn n Rhys xx
Oh, how could i possibly have got your name wrong Bryn. I blame my Welsh Instant Translator! or Bob, whichever you prefer! hehe.
THANK HEAVENS FOR ALFIE!!
This would be a very lonely site if not for this dedicated 11 year old. Thank you for your pictures Alfie. Check them out on the Coarse Lake News Page!
On Sunday 2nd Aug Alfie Bailey caught this lovely
BREAM on the little lake using his 7m pole with large
banded pellet.
11 year old Alfie from Steeton had a great day!
Here he is with his Bream.
THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH NEWS SO FAR THIS MONTH, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SCROLL DOWN TO ENSURE YOU HAVENT MISSED ANYTHING IMPORTANT!!
On Monday 8th June David Key was well chuffed with this PIKE he caught. Using a size 8 Goldhead Black Lure, he just thought he had become snagged under the ledge for about 5 minutes. Realising eventually it was either a large trout or a pike, he used his wits and cunning (his words!!!) to allow it to swim free then landed it. As he brought it up onto the bank, it puked up a roach! Eugh! Well Done David.
Malcolm Holliday caught this beauty on Monday 8th June. It was overcast about 11 degrees with a strong breeze. The fish weighed 6.5lb on a floating line with a 5lb leader on a Hares Ear. Well done Malcolm, nice pic!
10 year old Liam Taylor from Keighley caught 3 trout
on the quarry lake on Sat 30th May. It was his first time
fishing and he was pleased with his catch. Pictures show
Liam holding one of the rainbows he caught.
Ladies Day, 26th April 2009
This was a great success with 18 ladies joining
Amanda (Raygill) and David Henderson (instructor)
for a ladies day on the Delf Lake. It was a good day
and everyone enjoyed the tuition and the fishing. Altogether 5 fish were caught and landed and here
we all are still smiling at the end of the day. We are planning another one for the ladies in the summer (prob july/aug) on a Friday evening. I think it should be a
bring a bottle event and afterwards we can sit and
chat as the sun goes down. Perfect. For more info keep checking here or call us 01535 632500
Dave Hillary decided to have a go at fly fishing on the Large Coarse Lake on Tues Evening and here are two beautiful mirror carp he landed on imitation pellet on the surface. They were 2.5 - 3lb each.
On Sunday 3rd May KEITH WHITEOAK caught his first ever fish on Fly. He used a big yellow zonker and landed a 2lb rainbow on the quarry lake. Here is a picture of Keith (Right) with his catch. Well Done!! Left of this is Bob Myers who managed to land this beautiful Rainbow weighing 6lb (ish) on a red zonker.
BAD NEWS GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE LADIES DAY BELOW
The Bad news is that we have close the bookings for this event on Sunday 26th April
The good news is that we closed the bookings as the day is now full. We have so many ladies wanting to come and show the men how to do it that if it is as successful as we think it will be, we may have to hold another one in the summer.
Clare Foster landed this beauty blue on Sunday 29th March. She steaked it up and had it with garlic, mashed potatoes, peas and roasted peppers and said it was "bloody delicious"!
TROUTMASTER FISH-OFF 2009
On Monday 23rd March 7 anglers braved the absolutely vile weather here at Raygill for the Troutmaster fish-off 2009.
The weather threw all it had at them with lashings of rain, howling winds, sleet, hale and extreme cold but they survived and between them despite the nasty conditions, to land 43 fish between them
Here are the results...
1st Andy Cooper from Wigan with 14 fish mostly caught on an olive type zonker on a DI3 line. Congratulations Andy!
Joint 2nd Andrew Poole from Brighouse, Lawrance Robb from Doncaster and Rick Nuttall from Manchester all with 6 fish
Joint 3rd Bernard McBride from Bradford and Ray Clarkson from Earby both with 4 fish
4th Dave Hillary from Clitheroe with 3 fish
Coming only joint 3rd in the Troutmaster Fish-Off on the 23rd March did not put Bernard McBride off fishing here at Raygill. He decided to visit us again on Tues 24th.
Despite having very little sleep in the last 48 hours (he stayed up all night sharpening his flies for the fish-off..obviously not sharp enough though!) he attacked the lakes with a vengeance!
Here is what he landed. Shame it was 24 hours late Bernard but hey ho, impressive non the less!
One was an 8lb 8oz Brown and the other was a 12lb 7oz Goldie. He was using a diawl bach pattern.
