Gargrave Angler Stuart Dollan's patience paid off yesterday (Fri 17th Feb) When he landed a couple of beauties on the Delf Lake.He beat the wild weather to land one 8 pound pike and one 15 pound 7 oz both on joey mackerel float fished with zeppler float. "Patience was definitely the key to my successful day" Stuart said. Here are the pictures...

Sat/Sun 4th/5th Feb - Delf Lake is FROZEN. Anyone booked on or wanting to book, please call us first to check on condition of lake.
Glen Ormerod from Colne had a couple of fun days on the Delf. He was fishing for Pike and landed 3 beauties, 12lb, 14lb and 17.5lb.
The 12 was on Lamprey, the 14 was on mackerel and the 17.5 was on smelt.
Unfortunately, Glen didnt take any pictures of these catches as he only photographs them if they are over 20lb! Shame but well done anyway, Glen.
PIKE, AHOY!!
Huddersfield lad, Tom Booth shows that perseverence really does pay off by landing his biggest pike to date!
Weighing in at 18.5lb and measuring 35 inches tip to tail this fantastic specimen was caught from Peg 9 of the Large Coarse Lake on Mackerel in the edges.
Tom's previous 3 visits to Raygill were thwarted by pike taunting him but just not biting. But it was 4th time lucky!
The pike has been added to the Delf Lake and is waiting for all the Post-Christmas Pike anglers to come and try their luck.

Hey fly anglers, why not try something new...
Fly fishing for carp. It's the new black, ya know?!
Hey,
I came to Raygill today and had another great day fly fishing for carp on the large course lake. Bernard asked if I could email a picture. I had a fairly good day, caught around 10 fish, with the largest being well over 10lb. I've attatched a picture of the largest carp.
Regards,
Joe Wilkinson (11th July2011)

I came to Raygill on Friday (3rd June) and tried my hand at fly fishing for Carp. I caught 7 total, with the largest being 6-7lb. Bernard asked if I would send you details of my catch/pictures for the website.
I used an 8 weight rod, floating line, with a deer hair dog biscuit imitation. I threw in a few dog biscuits, waited until the Carp were confidently feeding then cast. The water was pretty clear, so using polarized glass I could see the carp very clearly. As well as the 7 I landed I probably missed around 20 odd takes. The bigger fish were particularly hard to catch and would often rise to the fly, but just give it a nudge and not take it properly.
Thanks to Joe Wilkinson for this report. Here are some of the lovely fish he caught and landed.

The PIKE are biting!!
Here is a smashing pike (measuring just over 36 inches long) after being landed on the Quarry Lake on Wed 4th June. Thomas Gott used a Zonker to land this beauty.

Craig Freshwater caught this lovely 4.5lb Blue Trout on the Quarry Lake on Sunday Morning (15th May). South African born Craig, was using a Black Humdinger.

Jamie Hogg had a great Easter Sunday! Pictured below is a 7.5lb Brown Trout, which was just one of the
44 that he caught on the day, he also caught a 5lb Blue! Using boobies and zonkers on a di3 line.
Float Tubes are producing good numbers and sizes on dry flies, so if you have a float tube, get it up here!!
On the banking you need to try bloodworm or olive zonker.

Easter Treats for You!
The Quarry and Delf Lakes have been re-stocked for Easter with some lovely BIG blue trout as well as some normal rainbows. Berb recommends that when it is not too sunny, and the fish are taking off the top, Shipman's Buzzers will do the Easter Trick! Our resident tame Fly Fishing Instructor - David Henderson - caught quite a few yesterday (Thurs) on this fly.
When the sun is out, change to a Cat's Whisker on a long leader. Feels like a bit of a chilly easterly today (Fri) so fetch a fleece, suncream and lots of enthusiasm! Today's special in the Lakeside Cafe is a Cheese or Ham Salad Sandwich for only £2.75 and Berb has let me use some TURKEY eggs so come and gobble one up! haha.
TROUTMASTER FISH OFF 2010
Troutmasters Fish Off 2010 at Raygill took place today (Mon 18th April). Phillip Green of Leigh in Lancashire won with 17 fish. He was favouring the Blob on a D I Sweep with a double sunburst blob and a Roly Poly Retrieve at between 8-10 feet.
Later on in the afternoon he went a little deeper (about 12 feet) and used a Black Leech (Zonker). Second in the match was Ian Duncalf from Warrington with 9 fish.
Both anglers had some fabulous good condition fish ranging from 3-5.5lbs. Amongst these were some great rainbows that had overwintered well at about 3.5lbs and some nice brownies between 3-5lb.
The first Raygill ducklings of the season
Here are 11 little beauties with their proud mum She walked them all the way from the Delf Lake down to the Large Coarse Lake
Here we go kids, look left and right!
Nearly there!
Nice work Mum, we're ready for a swim after all that waddling!

March 7th...Check out Paul LaHey on the Coarse page and his 160lb bag of carp!
Thursday 24th Feb
All the lakes are fishing well. The 2 coarse lakes seem to be responding to either double red maggot about 2 metres out or some sweetcorn in a feeder. (Or both!)
Lots of perch and roach showing with the occasional tench and bream popping up. Carp about 1-2lb coming out on the maggot.
The Quarry lake (Fly) is catching well on hares ear, gold head damsel and olive or red seem to be good colours. Maybe try something white too. It is a bit chop and change (as usual) but get it right and you will do well.
Pike Fever!!
Sunday 6th Feb 2011
There are 4 anglers trying their luck today so far. Yesterday ended on a 14 pike high! The largest was around 15lb and going on 3ft long. I am waiting for pictures to arrive.
Saturday 5th Feb 2011
At last! The lakes are thawed and we have some mild weather! The pike are coming out for fun today. Lots of runs and at least 4 out by 3 different anglers. Photos to follow tomorrow hopefully if they send us them in. Wahoo!
UPDATE on LAKES SUN 30th Jan 10.30am
The Delf has once again frozen solid! All todays bookings were cancelled. If you plan to join us tomorrow please call first. Quarry is frozen too so NO Fly Fishing either, boohoo! Only a couple of pegs available on the large course lake thanks to the ducks and geese!
CAFE & SHOP open as normal!
UPDATE Sunday 23rd Jan 2011
All lakes are fishable and ice free at last.
The Delf lake is open for the next few weeks for ANY METHOD and PIKE FISHING. If you want to come and have a go at these please call us to book. Weekends are getting busy for the AM and Pike so call first for weekend bookings. Midweek is ok but still call first. It is only £10 per angler.
AT LAST!!
Any Method & Pike Fishing 2011 is now happening and although the trout are slow to feed due to about 12 inches of iced water thawing and making them sluggish to feed, the PIKE have been having a ball!!
We have had a 9lb and a 10lb out so far and lads have reported runs on their lines when reeling in trout, watching the pike chase the fish on the hook!
Pike seem to like a bit of mackerel or smelt.
So its all good stuff.
Those trout fishing have hauled a good few home with them favouring prawn and pellet.
Weekdays are steady but weekends are getting busy with bookings for both any method and piking so give us a call to book your peg today!
This is available till the end of February.

Paul Straker has had some nice coarse fish out of the large coarse lake. He was fishing maggot and caster and had 22 roach and even a TENCH which he said is unusual for this time of year. Hopefully it is a good sign of things to come.
